Yacht Design
I like most sailors as a kid drew boats all the time. Studied drafting in high school, and learned from my dad who was an architect/engineer. Then after running IOR boats, and boat yards after high school I decided to get my degree in naval architecture, graduating at the top of my class..
First job out of school I went to Pearson Yachts in the engineering department knowing I would be given a lot of responsibility to go from drawing to build.
Then I went to Pedrick Yacht Designs to be part of a small team designing custom maxi (Drum Beat, for Alan Bond), production boats, and the new ACC boat for Dennis Conner. All of this experience was great. But I wanted more structural knowledge so I went back to school for composite structures. While in school I was offered a job for America3 as part of the shore team. This was more hands on experience at the top of the game.
After the 1992 Cup, I went out on my own. Since then I have designed a line of 14 kayaks with a patent, Bongo Sport Boat for One, range of designs from 12′-66′, loads of blades, modifications, and optimizing boats.
