Coaching/Mentoring

client enjoying his new ride.

My coaching business is by word of mouth. I prefer it that way since I am as picky as the sailor looking for coaching. When I started coaching in the 1970’s it was all about boat speed and crew work. Coaching still has those basic skills but it also is a very technical/psychological-business.

Recently I coached a group of sailors in and international regatta. I learned as I have for decades the group should be small, and I need to coach the sailors prior to a regatta. Starting to coach a team at a regatta is not good for the coach or the team. We need to build the relationship first, we all need to be open, smart, and ready to learn as a coach/sailor. When this happens the results are endless.

I prefer to work with sailors who are willing to put in the work, looking to combine all their skills, and make them come away from each regatta as better sailors and person. Guiding someone as a team (sailor/coach) is something I treasure and love to do with the right sailors.

Have Fun Every Day, Paul

Paul with Kip Stone during Bermuda 1-2 prestart

“I had a nice clean start and worked my way out of Narragansett Bay looking like I knew what I was doing. Although I spent most of the last five weeks in the area, it was the time spent on and off the water with Paul Cronin of PC Sailing that largely contributed to that success. Paul is a wizard at reading wind on the water – he sees things that you and I simply don’t see and he has a keen understanding of how to take advantage of the tactical opportunities presented as the wind and water flow in and out of the bay. I picked up just enough from Paul to get it mostly right this time.”

“In terms of pre regatta training, Paul Cronin is without a doubt the best sailing coach I have ever worked with!  Through his knowledge of physical fitness and his ability to break down the fundamentals of boat handling skills, his coaching clinics were some of the most productive I have ever attended.”

“Whether training for the Olympics or campaigning towards a national or international event, neither time nor money can be wasted.  Paul has helped me get to the next level by focusing on what is important, in turn leading to better regatta performance.”

“Paul helped our team sail by feel and develop a group interest in working
together, experimenting, and learning.  He provided valuable perspectives on the year long program and individual regattas.  His knowledge is extensive, his style put us at ease, and his coaching was attuned to the experience level and goals of the team.”
