Antigua Wingfoiling

Falmouth Local making himself heard

We had an excellent month in Antigua, both of us working, and getting afternoon time to play on the water. The people are friendly and we did our best to support the locals. Renting our Rav4 from Rasheed at RL Rentals. Rasheed and one of his employees Zhane who met us at the airport are both fantastic. Rav4 is perfect for the rugged (potholes/speed bump) roads. When Zhane met us with the car after we landed he spent time with us to make sure we were set. Both very classy people. We highly recommend RL Rentals.

We also rented from Dave Fuller owner of Dutchman Bay Cottages. Perfect place for our second half of the month when our Caribbean 600 duties were completed. Dave is a gem, really nice person. The first half of the month we were in Falmouth Harbor close to the Cat Club Marina where we spent many a day working, and some afternoons foiling off the dock. I could go on and on about how many nice people we met but I think you get it.

Dutchman’s Bay Cottage
Carol Rigged and heading out

When at Dutchman Cottages we were up with sunrise per normal, and had our gear rigged all day. Mornings spent working, unless the breeze was good we took a session. Some days two or three session. The place is family friendly. The other families were kiting. Kids running around, and everyone having a great time, and so quite at night.

Dani Edwards just after sunrise

One sunrise, the breeze was up, so I went out to see the conditions. I saw Dani Edwards, ripping around doing tricks. Dani is so smooth and a natural athlete. Seeing him jump and do 720’s was a gift. He was on a 33 ltr board, 600 cm^2 front foil, and a 4.2 wing, all the newest North gear. So I ran in and grabbed my camera with long lens and went at it. Here is my pick from those shots.

Dani starting his second 360 still 15′ up

Dani is sponsored by Kelsick Kiteboarding, a local really well run school and rental location right next to the cottages. Megan and Jake Kelsick have built a great business. They have two fantastic employees (Mare & Jason) who had their customers laughing, while having a great time learning. We took a two hour lesson with Jake together, and his tips are still helping us improve. If you want to foil in Antigua Dutchman’s Cottages and Kelsick Kiteboarding are the way to go.

Orion and a few thousand other stars outside the cottage in lawn chairs.

Since back home we have tried our newer smaller Armstrong FG boards last week. Spring in the air and water should start to climb soon. More on the new boards with videos coming.

Be kind, have fun, and see you soon, Paul
