• Rigging Trogear bowsprit, Episode 5

This week we have part two of the Trogear bowsprit. Trogear carbon bowsprit rigging can be customized for your boat. All boat bows are not the same, and all boats need different length sprits, with arrangements to match their use. I did a rigging arrangement that works well for my short sprit while keeping it simple.  I will have a Tips & Tricks video on making custom carbon hangers so I can remove the webbing and shock cord. See how I rigged my sprit, with a few tips to help make the job easy. I hope this helps you figure…

  • Installing a TroGear Carbon Sprit, Episode 4

Always exciting when you can add quality gear to your boat that you know will improve the sailing experience.  Trogear makes carbon fiber bowsprits for code 0 and asymmetrical sails. This sprit is a custom length to match my masthead symmetrical spinnaker pole, on my fractional rig boat.  I did not see a reason to add a penalty to my rating, so I had the sprit made to the same length as my spinnaker pole. Watch the video and see how I install the sprit on the bow of my boat, with a few tips to help make the job…

  • Amazing Human Sailing Feat

Welcome to 2017 The second fast sailing story has to wait, there are just too many amazing events happening in the shorthanded sailing world. First and this should always stand first when it comes to sailing achievements. Or should I say human achievements. Few, and I mean you can count on one hand the people who can make this happen much less live through it. Thomas Coville established a new solo (yes, solo) around the world non-stop, unassisted sailing record of 49 day, 3 hrs. 7 min, 38 seconds. To me there is no other achievement that even stands close…

  • The faster I sail, the more I relax

I would like to share two stories about my love for fast sailing. Each has a very different outcome, but both make me think of the Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hour Rule. For me Malcolm’s rule has a different meaning then you will “Become world-class in any field in 10,000 hrs”.  Millions work for 10,000 hrs at something, does that mean they will be world class at it? No, it means hopefully they are competent at it. To be world-class you need to have the passion, deep desire to constantly improve, enjoy failure, and not be interested in measuring success by…

  • The Ocean I love

I am not a writer, I work hard to be a story teller through my videos and photographs.  It is a never ending learning process that I love. Hopefully my passion comes through to my clients, and viewers. If I can make you smile or take some positive action in your lives I have succeeded. There are changes happening in our lives were we need to take action, now.  It involves our oceans.  My friend and shorthanded sailing buddy John Manderson, teaches me more about the oceans they anyone else I know. He also knows more about the oceans and…
