Summer in Maine

July full Moon Rising 2016

Summer, a time when we go to the beach, have cookouts, play in the sand, and enjoy maybe a few cold ones. Wait, the beach, I don’t think so, for me it is on the water not watching it. So with no boat this year, I was not doing my singlehanded trek to Maine with my buddy John. Knowing that my wife who also was not traveling, grabbed hold of the schedule, and set up a fantastic month for us. Thank you Carol

Sunrise Mooring after Full Moon, 2016

First we sailed to Maine from Woods Hole with her parents on their great cruising boat Katrina. We were able to enjoy full moon in Scituate, amazing sunset in Isle of Shoals, cool anchorages in Penobscot Bay, and fun sailing down East. So I did get a sail to Maine.

Isle of Shoals Sunset, 2016

Once in Maine, where I stashed my van with our SUP boards and loads of fun gear, we were off the grid to the family cottage (sorry no pictures of our private getaway). We enjoyed morning workouts and afternoon SUP at some great locations. Water was warm on the West side of Penobscot Bay. The evenings up on the hill overlooking Matinicus light, Camden Hills with blankets over us, on the screened in porch watching the stars was a time I will always cherish.

Katrina Reaching into Casco Bay 2016

After our two weeks we went back to Katrina and helped the in-laws sail ¼ of the way back, then it was time to get back to work. At that point we went back to the van and headed home to the crowds of Jamestown, and the fast paced summer people. But it is always nice to be home.

Morning Fog in Maine, 2016

We still have some of the best time of year to come, September and October sailing is fantastic. No crowds and realistic water temperatures not the global warming temps that kills the ocean.

Doing Dishes with Carol’s Mom, 2016

What a great month of memories.

Get out and enjoy the rest of August and have fun with friends and family, on the water of course.

See you Soon, Paul
