CarbonArt Free Ride 116 board

As it was delivered to my house from NZ. Simple nice packing job.

I mentioned in an April 22 blog I purchased a new CarbonArt windsurfing board. The new board arrived from New Zealand. The packing was simple and very well executed.

Well here it is, and I still have not sailed it. The wind for windsurfing has been better suited to my CarbonArt SL121 (stands for Slalom 121 liters volume)

When I ordered the CarbonArt from James in New Zealand I also went for a new skeg on the SL121 and the same skeg but smaller for the new FR116 (Free Ride 116 liters). Might not seem like a lot of volume difference between the boards. But when you see the pictures and know that the SL is 80cm (31.5” wide), and FR 68 (26.8”) that is a huge difference in board width. The SL is good for sail sizes 9.2 – 7.6 sq/m. The FR is 7.6 – 5.5 sq/m sail size. They are a perfectly sized, thanks to James Dennis owner of CarbonArt. After discussing my needs and how I sailed the SL, over 100 days, James did not pause, he said, “FR116”. Now I just need FR breeze to give it a go. That will happen, I bet in the next week.

Here are a few shots of the boards together and ready to sail.

Here you can see the width difference.  And see how the FR has volume at the tail.

Two very different rides.

Similar rocker and tail design.  James does and amazing job on the rails and the tail.  His boards are the best jibing boards I have ridden.

Top two fins are Techtonic Furry II fins 38cm and 47cm that just came out.  The bottom is what I was using on the SL prior and is a Techtonics Talon 48cm.
