Paul Cronin Studios goes 4K with Sony F55

Very exciting news, Paul Cronin Studios now offers 4K, slow motion to 240fps at 2K, and 60fps at 4K.  All of this with the new Sony PMW F55 global shutter camera.

The formats, bit rates, audio quality, and output options this camera offers is leading the industry.  Whether it is a feature film for the big screen, live broadcast sports (there was and F55 capturing the action over the first base side dugout at the World Series),  HD TV, stunning quality for the web, right down to corporate video that will have our clients smiling, the F55 is the camera of choice.

Of course you don’t just pick up a F55 and start filming, this is a complicated machine.  But having stepped up through the Sony XDCAM broadcast line of cameras over the last 12 years it has been a comfortable transition.  I did spend 7 hours at Abel Cine Tech in NYC doing their Intensive F55 Course which was a huge help.  Also time out shooting locally with my buddy Doug who also owns a F55.  Then the testing in my studio prior to the first job.

I have to say this is the best camera I have ever used much less owned.  This blows away everything else on the market for its versatility and options for the client, while providing 1080p, 2K, 4K, Raw, and fantastic 240fps slowmotion.

With two aerial jobs completed with the camera, more on this footage soon.  One for Storyville films form NYC about Brown University, and one for Blount Boats showcasing their new ferry/tour boat, with a church steeple on the same shoot that is being rebuilt.  And almost recently the Ft Lauderdale Boat show for boats.com which was three days of handheld work.  After these three jobs  I have to say the F55 rocks!

I will post next week the options I selected to build up my F55.  This is a true broadcast cinema camera so it is not an off the shelf hit record an go camera.  There is a place in the world for those cameras, but my high end clients demand the best and with the F55 I have the right tool to give them what they need to Capture their Passion.
