Schooner Man

Hi family and friends,

There are a few new boats in the family let me introduce you to Schooner Man.  Feb 2013, I started SUP after seeing Carol have so much fun paddling.  So I purchased a Bark 14’ Dominator and really got hooked on my first paddle.  When you only have to carry the board 150’ to the dock or beach it makes you realize, how blessed we are to live.  And of course how blessed I am to be married to Carol.

I had a great year (we paddle year round) of paddling the Bark.  While paddling my naval architect mind roamed while paddling.  While the Bark is a great board it is slightly to low on volume for my weight.  When I would push I would dig a hole not really go much faster You know where this is going.  I talked to all the top SUP designers and some not so top.  Most just shape by eye or use one mid section to design a board on simple cad, no thanks I prefer designers who know who Archimedes was.

Then I found MHL custom in Puerto Rico.  From my first phone call with Nick Leason owner of MHL I realized this is the shop for me.  We discussed my needs and he listened, and knew what I was talking about with shape and that was all it took, order placed.

Saturday I drove to Boston Logan and picked up my board.  MHL did an amazing job right down to the packing.  Schooner Man is 17’ x 25” carbon work of art.  My sister Laurie did a really cool graphic for her 4 brothers years ago on a pin.  So I had MHL artist, which I think is Gato put this on the foredeck.  What a wonderful job of adding this to the board.

I send out a special thank you to Greg Jaudon, Master Shaper who had the lead on my board. Also Nick, Ely, Gato, and the whole staff at MHL for building the board I had in my head right down to every detail we discussed from the first call.  And thank you to my sister for the use of her great Schooner Man on the foredeck.
