  • Our Wing-foil Gear Progression, Part 2

Part 1: Our Wing-foil board progression Part 2: Our Foil package progression Part 3: Our inflatable wings If you have not read Part 1 in the series, I recommend that at this time. Picking the right foil package is a fun choice for me.  Knowing foil design as a naval architect, and having designed a lot of rudders and keels.  I went for an easy to learn foils for our first round. Knowing we would progress in steps matching foils with the boards.  There are a lot of great foil brands on the market, so what ever brand you choose…

  • Our Wingfoil Gear Progression Part 1

Part 1: Our Wingfoil board progression Part 2: Our Foils progression Part 3: Our inflatable wings Part 1: Our Wingfoil board progression What wingfoiling gear should I buy? When I am asked this loaded question, I can answer only based on what has worked for us. And from knowing what friends have used that did and did not work. One thing that makes the whole process easier, and more fun is to learn with a friend. Learning with someone else is a pleasure, since life is about what we share with others.  There are a lot of ways to look…

  • Wingfoil Safety Gear:

Wingfoiling is growing so fast, I thought these safety ideas might start people thinking, and talking about the best ways to be safe. We have a fun, talented local wingfoil group.  There is so much sailing/marine industry experience within the group.  Everyone is a skilled waterperson. Recently I sent out an email with some thoughts on safety for wingfoiling.  After having a productive conversation with the group I thought it would be nice to share the safety gear we discussed, along with some basic seamanship.  What to wear: In Rhode Island our shoulder seasons the water is cold.  This year…

  • North Nova V3, 2023 Wings

To get out there and have fun wingfoiling you need to make sure you have the right gear for where you are skill wise, and your type of foiling. Don’t let all the talk about going on small boards, downwinder boards, small foils, small wings, push you in the wrong direction. That is the trend that killed windsurfing, and made it hard for new people to get into the sport. Look at SUPs and kayaks, they have done a better job at building products for the masses. Wingfoiling hopefully will keep the bulk of the product for the masses. This…

  • Cold Water Lessons Wingfoiling

First Off I want to congratulate Idani Edwards for winning the Antigua Wingfoil Championship.  Idani is a real talent and very nice young man, so happy to see him at the top in his home regatta.  I was lucky to grab a few shots of Idani one morning in Antigua Dutchman’s Bay. Surprised North has not picked up this talent for their team. See some fun pictures of Idani here. Ok, now to the old people wingfoiling. We have been out on the water starting 20 March after coming back from Antigua.  Here are a few lessons learned, and some…

  • Training the Machine Part 2

OK, for part 2 let’s dive into the fitness discussion.  Good time of year to refine your training for the upcoming season. I will repeat what I said in part 1 that we are all different, and have different physical needs to bring the machine to top performance.  But we all have the same end goal, to tune us so we have the opportunity to get into the flow state. But to get into the flow state does not just happen by chance, you have to train for it, just as you have to do with all the elements of…
