Training the Machine, Part 1
This is the time of year to reassess your personal training in all areas. The goal is to take control, and live a smart life style to make the machine (you) efficient and running smooth.

The reason I say life style is this is not only about fitness. There are so many ways to make you efficient at everything you do, feel, and learn. A few examples are sleep, physical health, mental health, nutrition, injury prevention, proper physical training, learning, being creative, having fun every day, living your passions, are just some of the areas. But for this post let’s concentrate on the basics of nutrition, helping to keep the machine fueled efficiently.
Over decades of racing/coaching at a local, national, world, and Olympic events you see who takes this seriously. They stand out in the way they move, communicate, and most of all perform.

Each body is different, and has special needs. There are trained professionals who can help you in this area. But it is you in the end that determines what works, and what does not work over the long run. You need to be very sensitive to the changes.
Going into a health food store is not where you should go for advice. They want to sell you what they have in stock. You need a registered sports dietitian with a degree. They will never say this is what you need, they will help you find your path to learn what works for you.
A nutritionist does not have the same education as a dietitian. But there are a lot of good ones that have a BS degree and are registered. Just watch out for the ones who call themselves nutritionist without the registered degree.
In both cases there are some sport specific dietitian’s, and nutritionist who know how best to educate you for a specific sport, and life style. The key is educate, not just say do this, that to me is a reason to walk away. This is just the first of many steps to fuel the machine properly over the long run.

But you need to do the hard work, and it does not happen over night it takes a constant refinement that never ends, since we are always changing. And enjoy the learning, be sensitive to your body, working toward a better life style.
Don’t expect to be perfect, no one is perfect, we are human and make mistakes daily. So learn from the mistakes. Have fun doing it, and you should improve in all aspects of your life.
Here are a couple of documentaries that will help open you up to some new ideas and get you started.
Kiss the Ground, is a obvious solution to so many problems with our climate and food source.
Secrets of the Blue Zones, more obvious solutions on how to live a healthy Life Style.
Maybe in some small way this will help you work hard to find your path to be more efficient, and have more fun every day, while living a passionate life.
