Thoughts for my blog that I like to share.

  • Embrace Failing

Every time we learned something new we fail at some level.   You have to, that is learning, making mistakes along the way so you can grow.  All of this goes with my last three post, that the details are hard to master, but embracing failing at them is a big step in growing. There are so many examples I could use, my drumming, my cycling, consulting, yacht designs, my bad writing, photography, video, but for this one I will stick with the sailing theme and save the others for future post. When I was spending most of my sailing…

  • Episode 63 Happy Holidays

Enjoy the holiday video from our on the water highlights. Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year See you soon, Paul

  • How To Improve your Reefing System

It is a beautiful day out sailing and you are enjoying the moment. Then you see the late summer thunderheads headed your way. Wow, they are moving fast, and look nasty. So if you are alone, family sailing, or in a fully crew race, the first thing you do is shorten sail. When I coach shorthanded sailors I use the analogy of riding a bike up a steep hill, “Shift often, and Shift early”. The same is true for reefing when sailing. You will not loose being a little early, but it will be a mess if you are late.…

  • Making a Fast Race Boat Bottom

This week is all about getting a race finish bottom on your sailboat. Do we all need fair, smooth, fast bottoms on our race boats? Of course we do, but this can be very expensive and for good reason. There is a a lot of labor involved. With all the boat work I have done over 40 plus years this is the nastiest job going. I said this would be my last bottom job, for the third time. Well I have done another since and will be doing Pierre’s next spring but Pierre is being soda blasted first. So if…

  • Winter Boat Project Management

We are near the end of haul out season in New England, so now is the perfect time to plan the winter projects. Upgrading your boat is a great way to increase your enjoyment, make your boat safer, faster, and more fun for the crew and family. If you need help planning, finding the right parts, doing the job properly, keeping the end result simple and efficient, or hiring a yard to do the work. I am here to help make the project go smoothly and on budget. Solving problems if it is poor performance, old electrical/electronics, engine that has…

  • Seasons Changing

We have been very fortunate this fall with nice weather for being on the water. I took Pierre to Pleasant Street Boat Yard today to hang on the dock for a couple of weeks. Matsya is in her shed, and wing foil gear is still in the van ready to go. I love this time of year on the water, the crowds are gone, water temp is still at 59 today, but now starting to drop off quickly till late January when it is near or at freezing. So we are making the most of it now. Congratulation to one…

  • Episode 62, Wing Foiling the Next Step

This has been a fun video to shoot and edit. It is the first time I have used a 360 camera (GoPro Max). There are a few extra steps, and software needed to finally edit in Premier Pro CC. But getting the same onboard perspective is not possible with non 360 POV’s. The quality is not up to what I shoot with my other gear, but the point of view helps make the story. I would like to thank all the other wing foil sailors who we have met, shared great information, and smiles. The sport is so open with…

  • Our new Addiction

This has been one of the best summers I can remember. We have sailed more than we have in the past, and together. Wing Foiling is our new addiction. Very hard to explain to people who have not experienced flying on a board with a wing over your head. Well just like anything in life you have to experience it to know what it is really about. This is not an instant gratification sport like Archmedes sailing. It takes the dedication to put yourself out there crashing for weeks, and some for months before you get up and flying. And…
