Happy Holidays 2024
The year 2024 has been full of great adventures. We spent the month of February in Antigua cheering on Hound. Carol did some interviews for the book and I capture on board and race start stills. While there we fit in a lot of Wingfoiling, thanks to the hound container. The final two weeks in Antigua we were at the Dutchmans Bay Cottages feet from the water. If you are into SUP, Kite surfing/foiling, wingfoiling this is a dream location. Off the beaten path a bit but that makes it special. And if you want to rent gear, take lessons,…

Treat the Pain
Always learning, pushing our bodies, and minds is the best way to improve at sport or better yet in life. To train efficiently most top level athletes have not just one coach but two or more. Sport specific coaching can help your technique, and improve your performance. But there are times we over train or have an injury. For the basic overtraining if we have the experience and the knowledge we can come back on our own. But there are times we need professional help and for me that is not a trainer but a physical therapist, (PT). …

Versatility Creates Visibility
In the 1980’s I hung with a group of friends we called ourselves Team Extreme; our motto was Versatility Creates Visibility, knowing the more diverse we became, the faster we would learn. We windsurfed together, made the Burton Snowboard team, raced Lasers, bike riding, jeep racing, played music, and raced my Capri 25. We had a blast, were young, fit, and passionate about life. We were going after every opportunity that came our way. When we would race on my Capri 25, Motivation. That was my nickname back then, so a perfect name for my boat. My brother David was…

Attention To Detail Is Needed For The Results
You are out racing, feeling good, but you just can’t stay in the lead group. What to do? Well, we have all been there, and I will give one tip that I know the boats winning make a big part of their racing. To start with, take notes after every time you go sailing. Write down what worked well, and what did not, what needs fixing or replacing. Be honest with yourself, no sugar coating. Go through the steps why you were having problems. And this is not only boat speed. It can be boat handling, weather, crew personalities/skills, tactics,…

The Faster I Sail, The More I Relax, Part 2
Here is my second story about my love for fast sailing. This has a very different outcome. Both stories make me think of the Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hour Rule. For more on this visit my last post intro, The Faster I Sail, The More I Relax, Part 1. OK, now my Second sailing story from 2012 In 2012 my friend Liz Baylis helped me secure a ride with Buzz Blackett who owns, California Condor a Class 40 designed by Jim Antrim. Thank you Liz! After a great phone call with Buzz, I was offered a chance to sail on the…

The faster I sail, the more I relax
I would like to share two stories about my love for fast sailing. Each has a very different outcome, but both make me think of the Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers. For me Malcolm’s rule has a different meaning. Not you will Become world-class in any field in 10,000 hrs. I do not agree with that point. Millions work for 10,000 hrs at something. That does not mean they will be world class at it? No, it means hopefully they are competent at it. To be world-class you need to have the passion, deep desire to constantly improve, learn from failure,…

Schooner Man
Hi family and friends, There are a few new boats in the family let me introduce you to Schooner Man. Feb 2013, I started SUP after seeing Carol have so much fun paddling. So I purchased a Bark 14’ Dominator and really got hooked on my first paddle. When you only have to carry the board 150’ to the dock or beach it makes you realize, how blessed we are to live. And of course how blessed I am to be married to Carol. I had a great year (we paddle year round) of paddling the Bark. While paddling my…
