Welcome to 2016
Paul Cronin Studios website is mostly populated now with videos, photographs, designs, rebuilds, and my trekking. Text pages have also been updated. The new setup makes it is easy for me to continue populating the site in all categories. It is fun being back in the shop this month working on a couple of design/building projects. Have Fun Every Day!

Year in review
What a wonderful time of year to be with family and friends enjoying the holidays. Christmas has always been a time for me to reflect on the year and years past, while being excited for the New Year We had some great evenings on Matsya, Carol’s Herreshoff 1938, 21’ Marlin. She is a pure pleasure to sail when the breeze is under 14 kts. My sister and her husband were on her three times during the 4th of July holiday. She is a perfect boat to take guest sailing. Kincora was a real treat in 2015 sailing close to a…

Web site update
Since I purchased the Aphotofolio DesignX template for my site I have been very happy with the results. The template is easy to use, fast to customize, and constantly updated by Aphotofolio. Their template is mostly designed for still photographers, but has worked well for showcasing my videos, stills, and some of my yacht designs. Yes, I am still designing and building products in my new shop. The last two weeks I have been uploading videos to my Vimeo page, setting up channels for each subject, and have started text changes. So far there are no major glitches. Still lots…

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving We have been so lucky this fall with warm weather in Rhode Island. Maybe we will not be iced in Jan/Feb like we were last year for SUP morning adventures. I have been reading two great books: “Where every you go, there you are”, and “Blink”. Living in the present moment is something that I have always worked hard at achieving. And both these books will help give you the tools to do just that. If you have a loved one who you just can’t think of the right Christmas gift well this combination is a gift…

Smile Every Day
Yikes, March was my last blog post. Well back at it and I have started to do my yearly site upgrade this year. More on the exciting changes is coming post. For today I would like to share how life takes you on unexpected amazing rides, and how the web can connect you to people whom you would have never otherwise meet. Yesterday I broke one of my rules to only sell my gear in the US, and sold a Schoeps boom microphone I had advertised to Lee in NSW, Australia. Lee sent me a PM (personal message) on the…

Kincora Deck Painting Problems
Well, I have to eat my words from the last post. I thought one part Interlux Brightside would be fine for the smooth surface on the deck. It did not work for a few reasons. Let me explain. I went back after the first coat of Brightside and the paint had a reaction with the gelcoat surface. There were small air bubbles everywhere. Gelcoat had been washed and wiped down prior and was sanded to 220 grit. But there were bubbles that popped up five min after the tip stroke. Until that five min it looked great. So I…

Express 27 deck repainting
Crazy winter in Rhode Island. Great time to have a heated shop for the boats. Kincora still had her original gelcoat from 1986 which was showing its age. So a visit to the Spa was needed to make her shine. The non-skid was very slippery and the smooth color was in need of paint. . I stripped all the hardware off. This is pretty easy by yourself on a boat this small. A few tricks with fender washers being loaded up, and vise-grips, and all the hardware came off with ease. Most of the hardware has barrel nuts so they…

Fast in Miami, and fast in Indiana
With the deep cold and record snow fall at home in Rhode Island it was great to fly South and film a few days at the Miami Boat Show. I have been filming this show for years and the manufactures pull out all the stops launching cool gear and their hot new boats. With a lot of the boats in the water we get a chance to film a few running which is a blast, and my forte, be it sail or power. Check out this boats.com First Look Video of the 2015 Mercury Verado 400 Racing. There are four…
