Pacific Cup Finish
Our final night at sea was a nice reach to the finish. Lights of the island were in sight for hours, and the crew could not sleep since were all excited to cross the finish line. Marines flying over head, land growing and sun minutes from rising we crossed the finish line 4:56:26 local time. Kite down quick since there is a coral reef 1/3 of a mile after the finish. Now comes the amazing hospitality of the island. Our escort boat was waiting for our finish with flashing white lights to guide us through the reef. With our deep…

We were sailing with A5 kite and full main with the moon on the luff for hours. Great sun rise and all day has been 80-100 apparent reaching in 12-17 kts. Clear skies, warm weather, and laughs all around. What a great team. 125 miles out and making 15 kts. Sunset coming up and final night at sea looks to be moon light and same angle breeze with slight knock to the…

Day 5 from Condor
Yesterday afternoon we hit some light areas while squalls passed by on the wrong side. Then just prior to dinner the breeze picked up sun came out and we started making miles. Great ride into the dark. Came on watch to Jim’s comment ” It sucks up here go back to bed.” So I went on deck to 19kts of wind, 1.5 pulling hard, moon setting, and full stars, and milkyway looking amazing. Then cloud cover came wind went up and riding the Condor on the edge all night down the black waves. Top speed Buzz 18.2. Avg during the…

Day Four on Condor
Day started with sail change from A1.5 to A3 last night at midnight when it went into the 20’s. Black night again but we could see the phosphorecen (spelling) on the breaking waves around us. What a blast to drive down waves into the black night. I had a great ride setting the new record driving once the A3 weent up doing 17.84K. More of that to come. This morning was some big holes and it showed in our sched, we are working hard to let the dog off the leash not just take it for a walk. Sally we…

Day three on the Condor
Last night was one of those dark nights off shore when you are happy for the big NKE readouts. Jib top, staysail, and full main. Big shifts and lots of up and down pressure but we kept her on her feet and made the miles. Today little saildrive issue pulling water to cool the engine in for the batt charge. But with a boat full of engineers it was solved and batt is charged. Now 1.5 and full main making miles in the SUN. Time for my afternoon nap. Elaine Buzz wants you to check to see if Erika Waslan…
