• How To Have Fun Every Day

Have Fun Every Day, one of my mom’s great lessons.  So how do you Have Fun Every Day? I am asked that at times by friends.  And one friend Todd Hedin said, “Paul you should write about your outlook on having fun every day!”  Todd is so perceptive and always paying attention. Thanks Todd for inspiring me to share how I have fun every day. Start the day knowing you have another special day to live and share with the people, and anyone you can make smile.  Say hi to strangers and you will be surprised how most respond in…

  • How to Learn Wingfoiling and Refining The Ride

Hey Paul, where have you been?  Working hard, sailing as often as possible, and making the most of summer. I love this time of year in New England, days are long, water is warm, and sea breeze against the ebb can be so much fun.  We are lucky to only have a five minutes drive to our beautiful town park, with excellent water access.  This time of year no wet suit, just light gear with padding in the right spots. We are also traveling on Pierre and Katrina going to new destinations for wing foiling. This winter we had 15…

  • Ocean Race Newport Start, with gallery

I had the opportunity to join my wife Carol Newman Cronin as she commentated the in-port race and start of leg 5 of the Ocean Race. I was brought in to shoot some stills for the Jamestown Tour Boat Coastal Queen. We did the same thing for the Bermuda Race start and it is a great time for all. There were 76 happy customers enjoying the fantastic view where Captain Dan placed us. And the great info from Carol. Very special to have the second deck to get a view over the spectator fleet. We were far enough away that…

  • Hiring a Marine Consultant

When you read marine consulting, what do you think?  I wonder what specific area they are consulting and go see their information. As a consultant you can’t cover everything in the marine industry, you have to have your specialty. So what is Paul Cronin Studios specialty as a marine consultant?  Good question, and I will try and fill you in on what I do, and who my client base is in the marine industry. First off you need to have the experience of actually having done the work where you are consulting.  Not just schooling, although that helps. But if…

  • Spring Prep Time

Writing this on 27 March, with spring starting in the Northern Hemisphere, it is a very exciting time of year.  All the new growth is popping in Rhode Island, with outside temperature at a sunny 59 degrees F today. I find this is a perfect time to test my coastal and offshore gear, lifejackets, PLB, all the gear hanging up in our sailing room.  Everything was inspected when it went into storage, washed, dried, and hung in a cool dry room.  Inflatable lifejackets need manual inflating, and let it sit out of the sun for two days to make sure…

  • Treat the Pain

Always learning, pushing our bodies, and minds is the best way to improve at sport or better yet in life.  To train efficiently most top level athletes have not just one coach but two or more.   Sport specific coaching can help your technique, and improve your performance. But there are times we over train or have an injury.   For the basic overtraining if we have the experience and the knowledge we can come back on our own.  But there are times we need professional help and for me that is not a trainer but a physical therapist, (PT). …

  • Versatility Creates Visibility

In the 1980’s I hung with a group of friends we called ourselves Team Extreme; our motto was Versatility Creates Visibility, knowing the more diverse we became, the faster we would learn. We windsurfed together, made the Burton Snowboard team, raced Lasers, bike riding, jeep racing, played music, and raced my Capri 25.  We had a blast, were young, fit, and passionate about life. We were going after every opportunity that came our way. When we would race on my Capri 25, Motivation.  That was my nickname back then, so a perfect name for my boat.  My brother David was…

  • Embrace Failing

Every time we learned something new we fail at some level.   You have to, that is learning, making mistakes along the way so you can grow.  All of this goes with my last three post, that the details are hard to master, but embracing failing at them is a big step in growing. There are so many examples I could use, my drumming, my cycling, consulting, yacht designs, my bad writing, photography, video, but for this one I will stick with the sailing theme and save the others for future post. When I was spending most of my sailing…
